SUGAR GROVE, VIRGINIA: OLYVIA ARLENE WHALEN GOETZINGER, age 61, died Saturday, June 23, 2012 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was a beautiful, kind woman with a generous spirit. Sweet, sassy and unique, she will be missed always. A loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend. A compassionate friend to all animals who found their way to her home. She was preceded in death by her father, Mr. Millard Wade Whalen. Olyvia is survived by her husband, Herschel Clifford Goetzinger; her son, Charles Herschel Goetzinger, both of the home; her mother, Ms. Mildred Whalen Semones of Cedar Springs, Virginia; two brothers, Mr. Eric Whalen and wife, Angie of Roanoke, Virginia, Mr. Winston Whalen of Cleveland, Ohio; three sisters, Ms. Johanna Nicholson of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Barbara Alice Main and husband, Ray of Vero Beach, Florida, Mrs. Frances Jones and husband, Cooper of Rural Retreat, Virginia; brother-in-law, Mr. William Goetzinger and wife, Charlotte of Sugar Grove, Virginia; sister-in-law, Mrs. Doris Ratcliff and husband, Jeff of Speedwell, Virginia; eight nieces, Mrs. Dawn Catron and husband Tim of Clayton, North Carolina, Ms. Beverly Barber of Frystown, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Valerie Bilbro and husband, Gary of Boones Mill, Virginia, Dr. Mary Ellen Jones of Pontiac, Michigan, Mrs. Kala Surber and husband, Rodney of Sugar Grove, Virginia, Miss Sarah Goetzinger of Sugar Grove, Virginia, Miss Stephanie Whalen of Roanoke, Virginia and Mrs. Matilda Beam and husband Chris of Morgantown, North Carolina; six nephews, Mr. Michael White and wife, Abby of Norfolk, Virginia, Mr. Jonathan White and wife Julie, of Vero Beach, Florida, Mr. Alex Whalen of Radford, Virginia, Mr. Quinten Whalen of Roanoke, Virginia, Mr. Robert Jones of Rural Retreat, Virginia, Mr. Michael Goetzinger of Sugar Grove, Virginia; four great-nephews, Andy, Alex, Austin and Ryan; four great-nieces, Zoe, Stasja, Amelia and Elizabeth; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Sugar Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Kenny Price and Reverend Derrick Cowan officiating. Burial will follow in Hutton-Cox Cemetery in Sugar Grove, Virginia. The family will receive friends, Tuesday, June 26, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel in Marion, Virginia or at anytime at her home or at her mother's home.
