Opal Perkins Johnson 98 years young passed away Monday, December 2, 2024 at Joseph C. Thomas Assisted Living, Salem, Va.
Opal was born in Volney, Va. and she was a wonderful mother and “Nanny Opal” She was a talented seamstress and great cook. Opal was proud of her age and had a great sense of humor. She was a role model of good health and always doing what’s right. She always cherished her time with family. Opal was a distinguished graduate of Virginia Carolina High School where she formed many cherished friendships and began her lifelong thirst for knowledge.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar E. Johnson, Sr.; and daughter-in-law, Karen L. Johnson.
Opal is survived by her children Beverly Day (Billy) of Roanoke, Va., Judy Hemmis (Steve) of Richmond, Va., Edgar E. Johnson, Jr. of Melbourne Beach, Fla.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; special friends and caregivers at Joseph C. Thomas Assisted Living.
Family will receive friends Friday, December 6, 2024 from 12 until 1 p.m. at Fraziers’ Seaver-Brown Chapel, 237 East Main Street, Marion Va. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. with Gary Frazier and Blake Frazier officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery, 4410 Lee Highway, Marion Va.
