Oscar McNeil

MARION, VIRGINIA: OSCAR McNEIL, age 102, died Thursday, April 26, 2007 at his home. He was born in Ashe County on June 3, 1904 to the late Kirby and Ellen Faw McNeil. He was a member of Marion Baptist Church, having the honor of being the oldest member. "Mr. Mac" had worked on a farm, with shrubbery, operated restaurants and had done carpentry work. He moved to Marion in 1943 and established McNeil Furniture Company. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maude Sheets McNeil; his foster son, Cecil McNeil; one sister, Edna Parsons; eight brothers, Wint, Quincy, Clate, Clyde, Alton, Gene, Tom and Iron McNeil. He is survived by one son, Roy McNeil of Marion, Virginia; two grandsons, Roger McNeil and wife, Amy, and James McNeil and wife, Teresa all of Marion, Virginia; three great-grandchildren, Sarah McNeil, Kathryn McNeil and Zachary McNeil; one step-granddaughter, Kathy Rutherford and husband, David of Sugar Grove, Virginia; one step-great-granddaughter, Riana Rutherford; a special caregiver and friend for 19 years, Minnie Tuggle; several nieces and nephews; two sisters, Ola Greer and Belle McNeil both of West Jefferson, North Carolina. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, April 29, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Dr. Mark Ross, Rev. Neville Mozingo and Rev. Mike Sage officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
