Patty Gail Johnson

CHILHOWIE, Va.

Patty Gail Johnson, 63, of Chilhowie passed away on July 6, at her home surrounded by her family. 

Born prematurely and with physical disabilities, Patty was fiercely independent and determined to never let her physical limitations hold her back. She was kind, generous and an inspiration to all that knew her. She graduated from Virginia Intermont College with a degree in social work, and was a strong advocate for those with any type of disability, though rarely accepting help for herself. She was a faithful member of the Marion Pentecostal Holiness Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Johnson.

Patty is survived by her Mother, Blana Johnson, of Chilhowie. Sisters, Becky Johnson, of Chilhowie, and Susie Johnson Castrodale and husband, Neil of Marion. Brothers, David Johnson and wife, Sara, and John Johnson and wife Melissa of Chilhowie. Nephews, Brett Castrodale, and wife, Palmer of Charlottesville, Jessie Johnson, Adam Johnson and Jared Johnson of Chilhowie. Nieces, Krista Castrodale Staton and husband, Tyler of Buena Vista, and Ashley Johnson Thomas and husband, Brandon of Blountville. Great nephew, Nelson Castrodale and great niece, Olivia Thomas, A special aunt, Peggy Johnson, and cousins, Chris Johnson and Tamara Rowland and families of Chilhowie and several special friends. 

Patty requested that there be no funeral, instead a celebration of life memorial will take place on Saturday, July 15 from 5:00 -7:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.  Family and friends are encouraged to share special memories of Patty.

In lieu of flowers, contributions would be welcome to the Special Education Department at Oak Point Elementary School, 138 Oak Point Drive, Marion, VA 24354.
