Paul S. Hayes age 64, passed away Friday, December 15, 2023 at Francis Marion Manor, Marion, Va.
There was only one Paul Sterling Hayes. He never met a stranger – everybody loved Paul. Most people knew him as one of the best basketball players Marion ever had. Paul loved sports – especially the Dallas Cowboys. Anytime you saw Paul he had a smile and a word to encourage you, and made things better. His fun upbeat personality and spirit to give will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Lincoln “Nappy” Hayes; and brother, Robert Lynn Hayes.
Paul is survived by the love of his heart, Michele Tirado of Marion, Va.; mother of his children, Dawn Bowen of Atkins, Va.; sons, Derius Bowen, Sr. and wife, Alicia of Princeton, W.Va. and Brett Hayes and wife, A’Shanti of Marion, Va.; mother, Peggy Hayes Russell of Chilhowie, Va.; sisters, Alice Hayes Crockett, Debra Hayes, and Diane Hayes; brother, Ted Allen Hayes all of Marion, Va.; eight grandchildren, Jordyn, Rihanna, McKinzie, Carter, Derius, Jr., Da’Marion, A’Laiya and Ja’Necia; Goddaughter, Amberlynn Jackson; great-aunt, Ann Foster Jackson; special cousin, Steve Foster.
The family will receive friends Thursday, December 21, 2023 from 5 until 7 p.m. at Fraziers’ Seaver-Brown Chapel, 237 East Main Street, Marion, Va. Services will begin at 7 p.m. with Pastor Lester Turner officiating. Burial will be private.
