FARMVILLE, VIRGINIA: PAUL PRESTON HICKS, age 92, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2007 in Farmville, Virginia. He was born in Atkins, Virginia, the son of the late C.P. Hicks and Maye Halsey Hicks.
He was a graduate of Atkins High School and Marion College. He taught for two years in Smyth County. He was a veteran of World War II, having served three years in the United States Air Force in the Pacific Theater of Okinawa and Japan. He was a retired merchant and co-owner of the former Thriftway Shopping Center in Giles County. His wife is the former Lucile Atkins. They had one son, Dr. Paul P. Hicks, Jr., a dentist in Farmville, Virginia.
He is survived by his wife, Lucile Atkins Hicks of Farmville, Virginia; one son, Dr. Paul P. Hicks, Jr. and wife, Patricia of Farmville, Virginia; two grandchildren, Paul P. Hicks, III (Trey) of Richmond, Virginia and Laura H. Coombe and husband, Craig, of Charlottesville, Virginia; one great-grandchild, Lleyton Coombe; one sister, Rosamond H. Coulthard of Pearisburg, Virginia; two brothers, Leon C. Hicks of Northern Virginia and Dr. R.H. Hicks and wife, Agnes of Sun City West, Arizona.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 28, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Dr. Fred Austin officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery, Marion, Virginia. The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to the American Heart Association, P.O.
