MARION, VIRGINIA: PAULINE McKNIGHT THOMAS, age 94, widow of Earl W. Thomas, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion, Virginia.
She was born August 5, 1917 in Grayson County, Virginia to the late Charles Clark and Minnie Collins McKnight. A longtime resident of Marion, she was active in many organizations in which she held many offices. These include the Marion Garden Club, the Southwest District, Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs, the Smyth County Historical Society, Rebekah Lodge and UDC. She was also a past president of the State Rebekah Assembly. Her special hobby was raising African Violets. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia McKnight Wingate.
Pauline is survived by her niece, Emily Wingate Watts and husband, Aubrey of Charlottesville, Virginia; great-nephew, A. Vernon Watts, III and wife, Susan and their son, Jason of Ruckersville, Virginia; and great-niece, Barbara Watts Donelson and husband, Scott of Arlington, Virginia.
The family would to express their sincere thanks and deep appreciation to her wonderful neighbors and friends who enabled her to remain in her home during these past several years of declining health. These include the employees of the Smyth County Ambulance Service and the Abingdon Kidney Dialysis Center.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, December 17, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Reverend Neville Mozingo officiating. Private burial will be held in Rose Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
