MARION, VIRGINIA: ROY R. RICH, age 75, died Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at his home in Marion. He worked 37 years and 2 months for the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries at Buller Fish Hatchery in Marion. He was an avid hunter of coons, turkey and deer. He served in the United States Army in the Korea Conflict and was a member of the V.F.W. Post #4667.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bent and Arfie Rich; brothers, Clarence and James Rich.
He is survived by his wife, Janie Greer Rich of Marion, Virginia; one son and daughter-in-law, Willie and Deborah Rich of Marion, Virginia; one daughter and son-in-law, Neta and David Thompson of Abingdon, Virginia; one very special daughter, Rhonda Stamper of Marion, Virginia; grandson, Jamie Thompson and fiancée, Traci Thorp of Abingdon, Virginia; special grandchildren, April and Jeremy Stamper both of Marion, Virginia; great-grandchildren, Austin and Tyler Thompson, Courtney and Zackary Roe all of Abingdon, Virginia; four sisters and one-brother-in-law, Pauline Greer of Marion, Virginia, Edith McMillian of Monroe, North Carolina, Sarah Eller of Chilhowie, Virginia, and Viola and Buddy Alexander of Marion, Virginia; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 26, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Adwolfe Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Surber and Rev. Jimmy Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Thomas Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by the Francis Marion V.F.W. Post #4667. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
