MARION, VIRGINIA: RAYMOND P. "POPEYE" MARTIN, age 75, died Sunday, December 9, 2007 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
He was a member of the Laurel Springs United Methodist Church. He served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korea Conflict and was a life member of the Francis Marion VFW Post #4667. Popeye retired from the United Postal Service Office in Marion after 30 years of service and also served on the Marion Fire Department for 22 years.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, David W. and Julia Parker Martin; one sister, Marian Dukes.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Goodman Martin of Marion, Virginia; one son, David T. and wife, Carol J. Martin of Elkins, West Virginia; one sister, Joan L. and husband, Dr. Leroy McDaniels of Richmond, Virginia; one brother, James "Donald" Martin and wife, Eleanor of Marion, Virginia; two grandchildren, Justin M. Martin of Washington DC and Scarlett V. Martin of Marion, Virginia; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday evening, December 11, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Rev. John Graham officiating. Graveside service will be held Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Laurel Springs Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by Francis Marion VFW Post #4667.
