d. January 2, 2011

RENA LORRAINE RICHARDSON FARMER, age 85 LEFT HER EARTHLY PLACE AND REACHED HER Heavenly Home Sunday, January 2, 2011 surrounded by loving family in Smyth County Community Hospital. She was a faithful member of Falling Water Baptist Church and had been employed by Southwestern State Hospital for more than 20 years where she showed her patients the same loving care she offered to her family. Lorraine was a very proud graduate of Konnarock Training School for Girls, Konnarock, Virginia. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and granny. She enjoyed playing the piano and accordion (as long as no one was looking at her). Lorraine had a keen sense of purpose, as she was a "behind the scenes" encourager, supporter and prayer warrior for her family and friends. Though you usually wouldn't hear her say many, Lorraine shared her words in the form of poetry. This is where her love of family, friends, fun stories of her growing up years and wonderful sense of humor spoke volumes. These memories are cherished today by her family. She is survived by her husband, Robert M. Farmer of Marion, Virginia; one daughter and son-in-law, Bonita and Gary Frazier of Marion, Virginia; one son and daughter-in-law, Ervin and Brenda Farmer of Danville, Kentucky; three sisters, Shirley Shephard of Rugby, Virginia, Janetta Shupe of Marion, Virginia and Loretta Shockley and husband, Steve of Collettsville, North Carolina; one brother, Ishmael Richardson of Rugby, Virginia; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive. Lorraine's family invite you to join them as they celebrate her life Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Haw Orchard Baptist Church with Reverend Tim Boyette and Reverend Jerry Creasy officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Flowers will be appreciated or donations may be made to the Konnarock Retreat House, c/o Dr. Jean Hamm, 224 Estate Drive, Rural Retreat, Virginia 24368 or to Falling Water Baptist Church, c/o Nancy Holman, 2206 Highway 16, Marion, Virginia 24354. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the family at www.seaverbrown.com. Seaver-Brown Funeral Service and Crematory is serving the Farmer Family.
