CERES, VIRGINIA: ROBERT "BUBBIE" ATKINS, age 90, died Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at his home in Ceres.
Bubbie was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served as a medic during World War II in Germany, France, Belgium and Italy. At the age of 70 he began driving the Senior Citizens Bus and proudly did so for 10 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert C. and Rosa Frances Waddle Atkins; two sisters, Lizzie Holston and Macie Hubble.
Bubbie is survived by his wife, Ruth Pauley Atkins of Ceres, Virginia; one daughter and son-in-law, Debra Kegley and husband, Joe, of Nebo, Virginia; three sons and daughters-in-law, Carson Atkins of Ceres, Virginia, Robert J. Atkins and wife, Judy, of Ceres, Virginia; Bryce Atkins and wife, Tammy of Wytheville, Virginia; four sisters, Ida Bales, Irene Bruce, Felicia Hayton and Maggie Atkins, all of Ceres, Virginia; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Zion United Methodist Church Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Will Shelton officiating and Military Rites being conducted by Bland VFW Post #7969 and American Legion Post #20. Burial will follow in Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at Zion United Methodist Church.
