Robert Mayne Farmer, age 92, born in Rugby, Virginia, passed away peacefully Monday morning, February 15, 2016, at Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion, Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rena Lorraine Farmer.
Mr. Farmer was a proud World War II Veteran and served in the South Pacific in the United States Navy. His last tour of duty was aboard the USS CETUS. He was also a fifty year member of Masonic Lodge #31. In 1976, Robert retired as Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds for the Southwestern State Hospital in Marion, Virginia after twenty nine years of continuous service. He began his career firing the boiler and worked his way to the top. Mr. Farmer was very proud of his service time and professional career.
Mr. Farmer is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Bonita and Gary Frazier of Marion, Virginia; one son and daughter-in-law, Ervin and Brenda Farmer of Danville, Kentucky; one sister, Ada Tilson of Marion, Virginia; one brother, Jack Farmer of Elyria, Ohio; six grandchildren, Robb and Kathy Farmer of Sitka, Alaska, David and Betty Farmer of Georgetown, Kentucky, Jerry and Nicole Farmer and Callie and Chip Minks all of Danville, Kentucky, Blake and Tina Frazier of Marion, Virginia and Aaron and Kelly Frazier of Greenville, South Carolina; ten great grandchildren, Laken, Brooklyn, Hope, Sterling, Barrett, Britton, Ellen, Drew, Madeline and Kaleb; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 19, 2016, at 7 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel where Masonic Rites will be conducted by Marion Masonic Lodge #31 A.F. & A.M. and Military Rites will be conducted by the Francis Marion VFW Post #4667. Burial will be at Haw Orchard Cemetery in Grayson County, Virginia. The family will receive friends Friday from 5 p.m. until the time of service at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
