Atkins, Virginia
Robert Brian Tibbs, age 40, passed away Sunday, December 8, 2024 at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem, N.C. after a strong fought battle with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.
Brian graduated from Marion Senior High School in 2002 and worked at Virginia’s State theatre, The Barter Theatre in Abingdon while attending Virginia Highlands Community College eventually transferring to Longwood University in Farmville, Va. graduating with his Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Communications. Brian then moved to Florida where he worked for six years before returning home to Marion becoming the Executive Director of the Lincoln Theatre for five years until Covid temporarily closed the doors. That’s when Brian began doing freelance work and became an avid traveler. New York, Oregon, Jamaica, Honduras – Brian took many people on his adventures by sharing his photos and stories on his social media pages. He returned to Honduras and worked for a Reality company using drones to make promotional videos on the island of Roatan before moving to Montana to work at Yellowstone National Park for the summer season. There he fell in love with the people and adventures, looking forward to many more and again sharing his experiences with his family and friends on social media. He received many awards including Virginia’s top 40 under 40 and even Patient of the Year by the nurses that cared for him throughout his yearlong battle. Brian truly never met a stranger, he had a zest and love for life like no other and his personality filled the room and everyone around him with happiness and laughter. He left us way too soon and will be forever loved and missed.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James & Mary Belle Tibbs and Luther and Gay Blevins; uncle Charles Blevins (Jody); cousins, Blake Dunavan and Kim Blevins.
Brian is survived by his father, Darrell Tibbs; mother, Phyllis Blevins Tibbs; brother, Luke Tibbs; special aunt & uncle, Michelle “Shelley” & Randy Shelton; many loved aunts, uncles & cousins; so many beloved & close friends from so many special places – we could not possibly name them all.
Family will receive friends Saturday, December 14, 2024 from 5 until 7 p.m. at Fraziers’ Seaver-Brown Chapel. Memorial services will begin at 7 p.m. with Gill Braswell, Tony Smith, Jon Phelps, Catherine Schrenker, Randy Shelton, Lauran Reveri, Tony Hurst & Amber Chatham Davidson speaking.
