MARION, Va.
Roger Dale Bales, age 70, passed from this life at his home Saturday morning, April 22, 2017 in Marion Va.
Roger was born May 24, 1946, to Leon Clinton and Lelia Primm Bales. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle.
Roger was a graduate of Marion Senior High School and attended Lees-McRae College. During his high school years, he was an exceptional athlete lettering in football, basketball, baseball and track. After high school, Roger enjoyed golf, winning 1st place in several tournaments and was active in softball and basketball with his friends, playing with the team known as the “Fat Men.” Roger once stated he and Frances had become really diversified with various sports in which the grandchildren participated.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his in-laws, Hope and Euna Lundy; brothers, James Eugene “Satch” Bales and Jack Gayle “Seed” Bales.
Roger leaves behind his wife of 52 years Frances; sons Alan (Tammy) Bales of Atkins, Va., Terry (Sandy) Bales of Marion, Va.; daughter, Shannon (Rob) Kilby of Abingdon, Va.; son Dale Bales, of Marion, Va.; six grandchildren, Amerald, Alisyn, Jayson, Casey, Lockie and Matthew; three great-grandchildren, Zaeden, Psyden and Eevee; two brothers, Don Bales, Atkins, Va., and Larry Bales, Abingdon Va.; one godson, Trenton; and his bone connoisseur, Lanie McClain.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at 7 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Pastor Paul Vaughn officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 until the time of service. Graveside services will be Wednesday April 26, at 11 a.m. at Wassum Cemetery in Atkins, Va.
