MARION, VIRGINIA: ROSA W. HAYES, age 73, widow of O.D. Hayes, died Sunday, May 14, 2006 in Valley Health Care Center, Chilhowie, Virginia. She was a member of the Zion Hill United Methodist Church were she was secretary/treasurer for more than 40 years. She was a 1951 graduate of Marion High School. Mrs. Hayes had worked for Lee Memorial Hospital, the medical practices of Dr. Jim Thompson and Dr. Charles Thompson, Brunswick Corporation, First National Exchange Bank, ticket sales at the Lincoln Theater, and worked at the Town of Marion for 17 years until retirement. She was a member of Ladies Auxillary of the Smyth County Community Hospital. Mrs. Hayes had bowled for over 30 years and was in the hall of fame for the Marion Women's Bowling Association. She helped begin the Food and Fellowship Community Lunch and was a member and past president of the Adwolfe Home Extension Club and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Adwolfe Fire Department.
Mrs. Hayes and her late husband, O.D. Hayes, had renewed their wedding vows in 1996. The family would like to thank Valley Health Care Center for their kindness during her stay.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by three brothers, Everette, June, and W.C. West, and a very special friend, Annie Harris.
Mrs. Hayes is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Max McClure of Chilhowie, Virginia; One son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Brooke Hayes of Charleston, South Carolina; One special granddaughter, Kimberly Renee Hayes; Three grandsons, Michael McClure, Jason McClure and wife, Ginger, Jody McClure and wife, Andrea; Seven great-grandchildren, Chanley McClure, Carley McClure, Alasca Painter, Emily McClure, Maggie and Logan McClure, and Nathaniel McClure. Seven sisters, Shirley Moore of Sumter, South Carolina, Joanne Hamm and husband, Bill of Port Deposit, Maryland, Erma Hutton and husband, Wallace of Wytheville, Virginia, Glenna Keyes of Sugar Grove, Virginia, Doris Sheets, Freda Rotenberry and husband, Douglas, and Debbie Alexander and husband, Kenny all of Marion, Virginia; Three brothers, Ralph E. West and wife, Joyce of Havre de Grace, Maryland, Bobby E. West of Marion, Virginia, and Roger Allen West and wife, Marsha of Marion, Virginia; and the residents and caretakers of Valley Health Care Center also survive.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, May 18, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Rev. John Graham and Mr. Greg Sheets officiating. Burial will follow in Thomas Cemetery, Marion, Virginia. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel or anytime at the home of her daughter, Teresa McClure, 105 Evergreen Court located in the Greenhill Subdivision in Chilhowie, Virginia.
