SUGAR GROVE, VIRGINIA: ROY L. HAYES, age 68, died Monday, June 29, 2015 in Sugar Grove, Virginia. Roy was a deacon at South Fork Baptist Church for many years. He had a passion for missions and it was obvious to anyone, as he never met a stranger. Mr. Hayes was the Commander of the Marion VFW Post 4667. Roy was a two year Vietnam Veteran awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He loved his Lord, his church, his family and his country. Roy Hayes left a big mark all over this old world and he will be missed. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Demma Hayes, brothers, Bill, Bob, and Rush; sisters, Robina Jo and Jane Mays. Roy is survived by his loving wife of 45 years Fran Hayes; son, Reid Hayes and wife, Dubie all of Sugar Grove, Virginia; daughter, Nikki Griffey and husband, Travis of Saltville, Virginia; five precious grandchildren, Morgan Hayes of Phenix City, Alabama, Trenton Hayes of Sugar Grove, Virginia, Maggie Kirkbride of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Tristin Griffey and Logan Griffey both of Saltville, Virginia; three step-grandchildren, Samuel Bowers, Daniel Bowers both of Elizabethton, Tennessee and Seth Pate of Sugar Grove, Virginia; sisters, Mary Dutton of Leesburg, Virginia, Pauline Kirk and husband, Red of Catlett, Virginia, Shirley Powers and husband, Junior of Marion, Virginia, Stella Maharg of Newark, Ohio, Irene Wyatt and husband, John, and Judy Hopkins all of Marion, Virginia; brother, Kenny Woods and wife, Karen of Sugar Grove, Virginia; sisters-in-law, Judy Lilly of Arbutus, Maryland, and Ewa McCullough of Severn, Maryland. Roy also leaves behind many wonderful and supportive nieces and nephews. Memorial Services will be held Thursday, July 2, 2015 at 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Pastor Mark Totten officiating; Military Rites conducted by Francis Marion VFW Post #4667. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Flowers will be appreciated or donations may be made to South Fork Baptist Church, c/o Don Henderlite, 215 south Fork Road, Sugar Grove, VA 24375.
