MARION, Va: ROY ANDREW PENNINGTON, age 94, died Monday, February 15, 2016 at Francis Marion Manor in Marion, Virginia.
Roy was a member of South Fork Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in World War II, and a life member of the Marion VFW Post #4667. Roy was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 74 and a half years, Maggie Pennington; his parents Andy C. and Sarah Sheets Pennington; three brothers, Bill, Millard, and Vance Pennington; six sisters, Nannie Brown, Fannie Adams, Ola Curry, Stella Curry, Louvenia Sizemore and Frances Rosenbaum; and one son-in-law, Bill Hellberg.
Mr. Pennington is survived by one daughter, Mary Ann Hellberg of Travelers Rest, SC; two sons, Buddy Pennington (Shirley) of Marion, Va. and John R. Pennington (Kathy) of Christiansburg, Va; eight grandchildren, Debbie Evans (Tim), Ricky Pennington (Donna), Keith Pennington (Stephanie), Anthony Pennington (Tina), Amy Pedrick (Rodd), Carl Hellberg (Candace), Eric Pennington (Jessica), and Michael Pennington (Erica); fourteen great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; a special niece (like a second daughter), Joyce Blevins; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Pastor Mark Totten officiating and Military Rites conducted by Marion VFW Post #4667. Graveside services will follow at West Cemetery, Marion, Va. The family will receive friends Saturday, February 20, 2016 from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
