MARION, VIRGINIA: ROY G. ROBERTS, age 91, died Saturday, September 10, 2011 in Francis Marion Manor, Marion, Virginia.
He was a graduate of Rich Valley High School and loved football, fishing and hunting. Mr. Roberts was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army in the European Theatre. He was one of the founding members of the First Church of God, Chatham Hill Road, Marion, Virginia where he served on every board, sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. Mr. Roberts had been a local barber for over 60 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harley and Myrtle Roberts, three brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Elmore Roberts of Marion, Virginia; one sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Gordon Harris of Broadford, Virginia; two brothers and sister-in-law, Bob and Marie Roberts and Eugene Roberts all of Broadford, Virginia; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 12, 2011 at 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Reverend Bill McCollian officiating. Graveside Services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Rose Cemetery, Glade Spring, Virginia. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. until the time of the service at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
