SUGAR GROVE, Va.
Roy G. “Colonel” Shupe, age 87 of Sugar Grove died peacefully Tuesday, November 29, 2016.
He was born May 19, 1929 in Sugar Grove to the late Robert and Dora Richardson Shupe. Of his many accomplishments and interests, music was one of his greatest joys. He played guitar, banjo and had the singing voice of an angel. He was a lifelong member of Sugar Grove Baptist Church where he served as choir director for 40 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Wilma Hutton Shupe; brothers, Grover, Joe, Rex and Russell Shupe; sister, Ethel Anderson.
Colonel is survived by his sister, Erma Adams of Tulsa, Okla.; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 2, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Sugar Grove Baptist Church with the Reverend Kenny Price officiating. Burial will follow in Hutton-Cox Cemetery, Sugar Grove, Va. with Military Rites conducted by Francis Marion VFW Post #4667. The family will receive friends Thursday evening December 1, 2016 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
