MARION, VIRGINIA: RUBY WEST ELKINS, age 92, widow of B. Frank Elkins, died Tuesday, July 11, 2006 in Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home. She was born August 15, 1913 in Botetourt County, Virginia, to the late Christopher and Lelia Hensley West. She had been an active member of the First United Methodist Church, having served as church secretary for 15 years and as secretary and treasurer of the First United Methodist Church Preschool from 1960 until 1995. Mrs. Elkins served on the Cancer Board and was active in the Smyth County Community Hospital Auxiliary. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia A. Elkins. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Ben and Patricia Elkins of Boston, Massachusetts. Several nieces, nephews, and special friends, the Alice Conner Family and the Erma Collins Family also survive. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, July 16, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jeff Lambert, Rev. Neville Mozingo, and Rev. John Graham officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery, Marion, Virginia. The body will be taken to the church one hour before the service. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel or anytime at the home, 415 Wassona Drive, Marion, Virginia 24354. The family has requested that flowers be omitted and contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund for Local Missions, 115 South Church Street, Marion, Virginia, 24354.
