MARION, Va.
Ruth Osborne Gullion age 97, passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at Francis Marion Manor.
Ruth was born in Smyth County to the late James and Bertha Osborne. She was the youngest of five children. Ruth played basketball at Marion High School, something not many girls did at that time. She was a hair dresser her entire adult life and owned and operated Charm Beauty Shop on Broad Street. Ruth loved her Lord, and was a faithful member of Marion Baptist Church where she taught Youth Sunday school for over 40 years, never missing a class. She was also known to have baked over 2,000 red velvet cakes, leaving people asking if there were any more in her freezer. She touched many peoples lives in her lifetime, and she will be deeply missed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin M. Gullion; adopted daughter, Patsy Dennison; three sisters, Demma Hayes, Madge Parsons and Ruby Johnson; and brother, Willard Osborne.
Ruth is survived by her son, Phillip A. Gullion (Virginia) of Jacksonville, Fla.; three grandchildren, Pamela Johnson, Michael Gullion (Jackie), and Courtney Dennison; four great-grandchildren, Robbie Johnson, Abbie Johnson, Austin Gullion and Andrew James Gullion; great-great-granddaughter, McKenzie Johnson; special niece, Shirley Powers; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families.
