Ruth Sprinkle King, 92, of Marion died Saturday, February 14th, 2004 at the home of her daughter in Groseclose. Born on June 13th, 1911 in Smyth County, she was the daughter of the late Melvin Sprinkle and Nannie Allen Vernon and was a long time member of the Marion Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Forrest French King, her daughter-in-law, Susanne Bruce King, one brother, Glenn Sprinkle and two sisters, Mrs. William (Mildred) Wolfe and Mrs. Ralph (Edith) Conner. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jay Burkett of Groseclose. One son, Forrest French King, Jr. of Marion. Three grandchildren, James Brian Burkett of Rural Retreat, Cherie Burkett Sturgill and husband, Dan of Sugar Grove and Rebecca King Mitchem and husband, Ray of Rural Retreat. Four great-grandchildren, Daniel Sturgill, Samuel Sturgill, Jonathan Mitchem and Michelle Mitchem. One sister, Mrs. William (Elsie) McMillan of Galax, Va. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 17th at 2:30 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Rick Beam and the Rev Neville Mozingo officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.Those who wish may make memorials to the Groseclose First Church of God, 333 Citizens Road, Rural Retreat, Virginia 24368.The family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon from 1:30 til 2:15 p.m. prior to the service.
