ROANOKE, VIRGINIA: SALLIE SCOTT CARNAHAN, age 88, formerly of Marion, Virginia passed away on March 18, 2014 at Roanoke United Methodist Home in Roanoke, Virginia. She was the daughter of C.W. "Jake" and Carolyn Snider Scott. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert V. Carnahan, brothers, H. Andrew Scott, John C. Scott, Benjamin B. Scott, and Nathan K. Scott.
Sallie is survived by her brothers, Jake Scott and wife Madeline of Marion, Charles N. Scott and wife Joyce of San Salbz, Florida, sisters in law Margaret B. Scott, Weber City, Virginia and Betty B. Scott Radford, Virginia along with several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Carnahan held a Bachelors Degree in Home Economics from Madison College, a Master of Science Degree in Food and Nutrition from VPI. She taught Home Economics in Virginia Public Schools, she was a Food Service Supervisor in Fort Myers, Florida, Norfolk, Virginia and Denver Colorado. She retired from the Denver Public School System in 1983 after twenty three years of service.
Sallie was a long standing member of the Green Memorial United Methodist Church in Roanoke, Virginia. She loved to play the piano and organ and had played since she first started lessons at six years of age. Her fellow residents of Roanoke United Methodist Home appreciated her musical talents and her love for sewing. For years she made her own clothes and in her final years would alter clothes for many of her neighbors. Since a young age she was a proud member of the D.A.R.
A memorial service to honor her life will be held, Sunday afternoon, March 30, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. with Reverend Harry Howe officiating. A visitation with family and friends to follow at the Seaver Brown Chapel. A private family burial will follow at a later date at the Mount Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Marion, Virginia.
