MARION, VIRGINIA: SAM POSTON, age 84, died Monday, July 1, 2013 at Johnson City Medical Center, Johnson City, Tennessee.
He was born August 13, 1928 in Smyth County, Virginia to the late Roy and Mandy Ryburn Poston. Sam was a member of Adwolfe Freewill Baptist Church, and was retired from Southwestern State Hospital with over 36 years of service. He was a kind spoken, good, sweet person who enjoyed painting houses and buildings and being a ham radio operator. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Kathy Hardy; two brothers, Howard and Leroy Poston; and one sister, Nancy Blevins.
Sam is survived by his wife Charlotte Poston of Marion, Virginia; one son Bobby Poston and wife, Pamela of Marion, Virginia; two step-daughters, Robin Fletcher of Round Hill, Virginia and Charlene Glass of Marion, Virginia; two step-sons, Jeff Hardy of Marion, Virginia and Scott Hardy of Fairfax, Virginia; three sisters, Reba Hopkins and husband, Bill of Marion, Virginia; Phyllis Vernon and husband, Ronnie of Chilhowie, Virginia; Pauline Olinger and husband, Eugene of Chilhowie, Virginia; one brother, Ernie Poston of Atkins, Virginia; and very special grandchildren, Alec Poston, Nathan Andrew Scott Hardy and Jaslyn Lee "Jazz" Hardy. Many step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, July 4, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Adwolfe Freewill Baptist Church with Reverend Bob Surber officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Saltville, Virginia where Military Rites will be conducted by Francis Marion VFW Post #4667.
