Samuel F. “Sam” Akers age 66 passed away Monday, January 30, 2023 at Duke University Hospital, Durham, N.C.
Sam made the most of his life. He enjoyed everything he did and he did a lot; coon hunting, fishing, horseback riding, and hauling his daughter around to wherever the horse shows were. Sam loved the Lord and was a member of the Rural Retreat Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was a loyal employee of AMSCO, working for nearly 35 years until they shut the doors. Sam was an all around good guy who will be missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Josephine Akers; sisters, Donna Gale Daniels and Frances Lahoma Akers.
Sam is survived by his wife of 44 years, Kathi L. Akers; daughter, Sandra Akers; sisters, Audrey Coleman (David); brothers, Roger Akers (Karen) and Greg Akers (Debbie); sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sherry Marshall and Carter “Slick” Marshall, Jr.; several nieces and nephews; special niece, Miranda Jones (Scotty); special friends, Charlie and Melody Hogston, Robbie and Lynn Williams, Gene and Lea Horney, Dave and Nona White, Mark Cantamessa, and Larry Lewis; and his dog, Speedy.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
