MARION, VIRGINIA: SARAH ELIZABETH HOLMES HULL, age 92, of Marion died Friday, March 27, 2009 in the Smyth County Community Hospital after an extended illness.
Born January 8, 1917 in the North Holston area of Smyth County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Wilkinson Holmes and Garian Copenhaver Holmes. She attended Marion College and had been a faithful member of the Royal Oak Presbyterian Church for over sixty years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Denton Hull in 1976, a sister, Helen Holmes Tate, and two brothers, Dr. Edward Buchanan Holmes and Charles Wendell Holmes.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda Garian Hull Ross, and husband, the Reverend Dr. Mark S. Ross, and Anne Harper Hull, all of Marion. One son, David Denton Hull, Jr., and wife, Linda Blevins Hull of Marion. Five grandchildren, Stephanie Dawn Kiser of Denver, CO; Amy Elizabeth Kiser of Chicago, IL; Brett Christopher Kiser of Portland, OR; Laura Hull Paschal and husband, David, of Hume, VA; and Denton Thomas Hull of Marion. A brother-in-law, the Reverend Dr. Manson B. Tate of Dublin, VA. Two nieces, Carolyn Elizabeth Tate of Dublin, and Barbara Holmes Stoudt of Charlottesville, VA. Two nephews, Robert Carrington Tate of Lithonia , GA, and Richard Edward Holmes of Beaver Creek, Ohio.
Her special caregivers include Betty Church, Linda Hull, Tracy Nelson, Zola Nelson and Mabel Perry.
Memorial services will be held Monday, March 30 at 11 o'clock at the Royal Oak Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Alan Gray and the Reverend Dr. Mark Ross officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall of the church. A committal service will be held at 2 o'clock in the Rose Lawn Cemetery.
