MARION, VIRGINIA: SHIRLEY TEMPLE LEE BOYD GASKINS, age 79, of Marion, VA went to be with her Lord and Savior Friday, July 31, 2015 at Johnston Memorial Hospital.
She was the seventh of twelve born to the late Fred Jefferson Lee and Cleo Cynthia Cox Lee on March 22, 1936 in Sugar Grove, VA. Shirley was a 1995 graduate of Carnegie High School, Marion, VA. She relocated to Orange, New Jersey and worked at Overlook Hospital in Summit, New Jersey as a Pediatric Nurse. Later moving to Marion, VA she worked for the State of Virginia Health Department for 25 years. She was cherished by all of her co-workers and clients. Shirley was a member of Mount Zion Temple Family Worship Center where she was a team leader of the Chosen Generation and served on the Mary Martha Committee and also was a member of the Temple Keepers.
Cleo, Shirley's mother said that Shirley never disobeyed her wishes. She was a very obedient daughter.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Leon Milton (Patches) Boyd, five brothers, Robert C. Lee, Clarence F. Lee, Sr., Carl J. Lee, Ellis L. Lee and Fred Lee, Jr.; and one sister, Mary Francis Lee Boyden.
She leaves to cherish her life, five daughters, Brenda Ruth Boyd Jackson, (husband, Michael) of Marion, VA, Dianna Carol Boyd Johnson (husband, Melvin) of Glade Spring, VA, Donna Lee Boyd Surber (husband, Clark), of Saltville, VA, Pamala Lynn Boyd Ames of Marion, VA, Angela Marie Boyd Preston (husband, Jarrett) of Glade Spring, VA; one brother, James Thomas Lee (wife, Elaine) of Sugar Grove, VA; three sisters, Nancy Ann Lee Purefoy (husband, George) of Marion, VA, Emily Carol Lee Colins of New Jersey, and Loraine Lee Jackson of Marion, VA; nineteen grandchildren, twenty-two great- grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Robin Turner officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
