Skarlette Ranee “Skar” “Buggy” Hoover age 12, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2023 at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, Va.

Skarlette wasn’t your typical 12 year old, she had to deal with many health issues on a daily basis. Living as a child with Tourette’s, Epilepsy, and being on the Autism spectrum wasn’t easy – but Skar was a champion, facing each obstacle with her smile and contagious laugh. She could light up a room when she walked in. She loved people and never met a stranger. Skar could strike up an interesting conversation with anyone discussing facts and opinions about anything and everything. From art, Japanese anime(Hello Kitty), cosplay(Kawaii), many genres of music, and all kinds of crafting, to Alexander Hamilton, the Salem witch hunts and history in general; you name it, Skar had an interest in it and probably knew some obscure fact about it. She also had an eye for photography and took pictures of anything and anyone! She was a caring, sweet, loving young girl who wanted to help make a difference in the world; and for those who knew her, Skar did just that.

She was preceded in death by her great-grandmothers, Joan Damewood and Ruth Hoover; grandfathers, Cotton Harris, Andrew Hoover, and Ernest E. Mitchell, Sr.; uncle, Jeff Harris; cousins, Mikey Harris and Madelyn Evangeline Mitchell.

Skarlette is survived by her mother, Desiree Hoover; father, Daniel Mitchell (Nicole Gudger); grandparents, Donnie and Ora Harris, and Anna Jean Mitchell; uncles and aunts, Josh Hoover (Brittany), Eddie Mitchell (Tracy Moore), Chris Mitchell (Ann Myers), Tracy Sheets (Jamie) and Missy Holbrook (Gary); cousin, Kylee Hoover; special friends, Remy, Destiny, Madison and Dillion; and many cousins.

The family will receive friends Saturday, January 28, 2023 from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 12 p.m. with Blake Frazier officiating. 

Flowers will be appreciated or donations may be made to a charity of your choice supporting Tourette’s, Epilepsy, or Autism research
