MARION, VIRGINIA: STELLA DEANS WOLFENDEN MALONEY, age 92, died Friday, July 14, 2006 in Smyth County Community Hospital. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Marion. She served on the board of trustees, was a member of the executive board, and secretary of the United Methodist Women.
She was president and general manager of the radio stations, WMEV AM-FM after the death of her husband, Robert C. Wolfenden, founder of the stations. Stella was president of the Virginia Association of Broadcasters and a retired honorary member. She was a member of the Virginia Associated Press Broadcasters, past president of the Pilot Club of Marion and secretary of the Marion Garden Club. She served on the Marion Town Council for 16 years.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Nancy Ronquest of White Stone, Virginia and Edwina Johnson of Bishopville, Virginia; Two brothers Fred Deans of Roanoke, Virginia and Robert E. Deans of Richmond, Virginia. She is survived by one daughter, Anne Wolfenden of Marion, Virginia; One granddaughter, Bonnie Sanders and husband, Steve; Two grandsons, Robert Ronquest and wife, Ruth and Carlos Johnson and wife, Michelle; and several great-grandchildren. One sister, Hazel Richardson of Roanoke, Virginia; Two sisters-in-law, Beverly Deans of Roanoke, Virginia and Evelyn Deans of Richmond, Virginia; One son-in-law, Milton Ronquest of White Stone, Virginia; and a number of special nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, July 17, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Rev. Jeff Lambert and Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery, Marion, Virginia. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
