Steven Ray Sheets

Steven Ray Sheets age 70, passed away Monday, February 27, 2023 at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, Va.

Steve loved life. He enjoyed hanging out with family when he wasn’t working with the Virginia Department of Transportation; where he worked for over 30 years before retiring. Steve’s passion was on a ball field or court. He officiated football, baseball, and basketball for over 30 years as well. Steve loved working with young people. In his spare time, he could be found working outside on a house project or in his flowers. If there’s a foul line in heaven, Steve’s there.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Sheets; and mother, Evelyn Lowery.

Steve is survived by the mother of his children, Dixie Sheets of Marion, Va.; daughter, Amanda Sheets Alsbrook and husband, Rick of Claypool Hill, Va.; son, Marcus Sheets of Marion, Va.; sister, Patty Thompson and husband, Mike of Glade Spring, Va.; brother, Edward Sheets and wife, Joan of George Town, Texas; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Friday, March 3, 2023 from 5 until 7 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel, 237 East Main Street, Marion, Va. or at any time at the family home 202 Riverview Drive, Marion Va. Funeral services will begin at 7 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Blake Frazier officiating. Burial will be private. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Smyth County Local, 2840 Electric Road, Suite 106A, Roanoke, Va. 24018.
