CLEVELAND, GEORGIA: SYDNEY CURWEN SPRINKLE, JR., age 71 of Cleveland, Georgia, died Wednesday, July 12, 2006. He was born in Marion to the late Sydney Curwen, Sr. of Marion and Margaret Clarke Sprinkle of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. As a boy, he spent many summers at the family cottage in Conneaut, Ohio, where he watched the oar freighters sail the Great Lakes. During his later school years he joined the Merchant Marines to serve on those same oar boats. He graduated from Marion High School and entered Marion Junior College, but left to serve three years in Germany for the U.S. Army (1955-1958). He returned to the states, finished his business degree and was a senior account executive for 40 years in the telecommunications industry. He is survived by his wife, Mayron McCrary Sprinkle of Asheville, North Carolina; His aunt, Irma Sprinkle of Marion; Sisters, Margaret Sprinkle Yearsley of Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania and Shirley Sprinkle Blood of Lexington, Kentucky; His children, Susan Sprinkle, Geoff Boden, Jack Sprinkle, Dee Gillespie, Scott Sprinkle, Debra Boden, Bill Cochrane, Ashley Allen and Bo Sprinkle; Grandchildren, Chris Stover, Alexandra and Sarah Sprinkle, Brook Allen, Ryan and Eric Gillespie, Emma, Jane and Fern Cochrane. Graveside Services were held at Round Hill Cemetery, Marion, Virginia. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, October 7, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at Hungry Mother State Park Amphitheatre with Rev. William T. Wing, III officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Hospice of NGMC, 2150 Limestone Parkway, Gainesville, Georgia 30501.
