Sylvia Purkey

MARION, VIRGINIA: SYLVIA HORNE PURKEY, age 77, died Monday, July 25, 2011 at Appalachian Christian Village in Johnson City, Tennessee. Mrs. Purkey was born in Wythe County to the late Eugene and Loetta Umberger Horne. She attended Grace United Methodist Church and held a variety of occupations during her lifetime. Mrs. Purkey was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Michael Purkey. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Billy R. Purkey of Marion, Virginia; daughter, Terese Fleming and husband, James of Monroe, North Carolina; daughter-in-law, Nancy Purkey of Marion, Virginia; sister, Shirley Horne Blackwell of Marion, Virginia; grandchildren, Kristen Fleming and Jarrod Fleming; step-granddaughter, Pia Childers and step-great-grandson, Michael Wade. Funeral Services will be held, Thursday, July 28, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Reverend Mike Teague and Reverend Emmitt Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O.
