MARION, Va.: Teddy Vencill, Jr, age 76, died Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Smyth County Community Hospital.
Teddy was a wonderful man and was the one ready to help. He was extremely active in his church and a 20 year member of Valley View Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school until he lost his eyesight. He loved the Lord, his family and his golf clubs. Teddy was an avid golfer and was so proud that he never put one in the water at hole 17 in Sawgrass. It didn’t matter if he was on a PGA course or playing putt-putt, he would shoot an 85. He always had a smile and a kind word. Teddy Vencill, Jr. will be a missed man.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore R. and Clara Cox Vencill; and a sister, Thelma Vencill.
Teddy is survived by his wife, Geraldine K. Vencill of Marion, Va.; son, Chuck Vencill of Huntsville, Ala.; step-daughter, Charlene Holmes of the Belfast Community, Va.; sisters, Margaret Breeding of Verona, Va., Sue Fife and Nancy Bausell, both of Kingsport, Tenn., and Polly Cox of the Belfast Community, Va.; brother, E.J. Vencill of Lebanon, Va.; grandchildren, Bridgett Pack of Abingdon, Va., and Adam Vencill of Millbrook, Ala.; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, June 3, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Valley View Baptist Church, Sugar Grove, Va. with Reverend Roger Frost, Dr. Alan Davis and Mr. Larry Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Kirk Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, June 2, 2016 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Owens Funeral Home, Lebanon, Va. and again Friday, June 3, 2016 from 12 noon until 2 p.m. at Valley View Baptist Church, Sugar Grove, Va.
