Bluefield, Va.
Thelma Jean Lesher Mitchell age 90, entered into her eternal joy Saturday, July 15, 2023.
She was born June 10, 1933, at Kanawha Falls WV, the sixth of ten children born to William Grover Lesher and Lora Lee Baker Lesher. She met the love of her life, Stanley Ross Mitchell, while working at a boarding house in Logan, WV at the age of 16. They were married on her 17th birthday in 1950. Thelma was a joy-filled soul who was dedicated to serving her family and neighbors. She was an industrious and thrifty woman, possessing all the gifts, graces, and talents of a dedicated wife and mother. After obtaining a GED and using her gift of sewing, she took a business class at Bluefield State College, which sparked the business flame that became Mitchell’s Interiors, Inc. Thelma made many homes in the two Bluefields and surrounding communities more beautiful. Businessman Alfred Land of Bluefield, WV commended Thelma on her extraordinary marketing skill. Wherever she and Ross lived, you could be sure that the neighbors and their children were well fed and cared for. An extra plate at suppertime was often delivered to a neighbor. Thelma and Ross were long-time members of Graham Christian Church. Thelma later became a member of Falls Mills Christian Church, where she has loved and been loved for many years. She loved her Lord Jesus Christ and studied to know Him better all her days.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ross Mitchell; daughter, Rhonda Scott; son, Freeman Mitchell; granddaughter, Teresa Eisenman; and all her siblings except one sister, Christine Jones of Florida.
Thelma is survived by her children, Lana Hartzog, Mona Jackson and Fred, Case Mitchell and Allison; grandchildren, Sarah Skeens and Nathan, Chloe Mitchell and Adrian, Rachel Mitchell, Brian Johnson, Grayson Mitchell, Everett Mitchell; six great-grandchildren, Hunter, Caidha, Ross, Anna, Zeke, Eli.
