Twyleene Sturgill Sayers age 98, passed away Monday, February 17, 2025 at Abingdon Health & Rehab, Abingdon, Va.
Born in Smyth County, Virginia in 1926, Twyleene Sayers was the oldest member of Falling Water Baptist Church and the last of her siblings.
Preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, James W. “Joe” Sayers; and parents, Clarence Ray and Mary Ann Grinstead Sturgill; son-in-law, Dwight Barker; all of her brothers and sisters.
Twyleene is survived by her daughter, Mary Etta Barker of Chilhowie, Va.; grandchildren, Col. Christopher Barker USAF Retired and wife, Col. Michelle Barker USAF Retired of Lithia, Fla., Scott Barker and wife, Lt. Col. Margaret Barker USAF Retired of Bellbrook, Ohio; great grandchildren, Geneva Barker, Calissa Barker, Aiden Barker and Alexa Barker; several nieces, nephews and their families; special friend, Ron Sexton.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 25, 2025 from 1 until 2 p.m. at Fraziers’ Seaver-Brown Chapel. Graveside services will follow at Attoway Cemetery, Highway 16, Marion, VA with Pastor Jerry Creasy officiating.
