MARION, VIRGINIA: VIRGIL MILLER, age 76, died Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at his home in Marion, Virginia.
Virgil was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church, Marion. Virginia. He retired as Director of Smyth County Social Services with over 40 years of service. He had proudly served as Chairman of the Building Committee for Smyth County Social Services & Health Department. For more than 25 years he had been an Official for Virginia High School League. He also served on the boards for the Virginia League of Social Services as well as Southwest Virginia Health Systems Agency. He was a member of the Marion Rotary Club and a former president of the Holston Hills Country Club. Virgil loved playing golf and was an avid fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Nannie Hubbard Miller; two sisters, Connie Miller Jordan and Leda Miller Jessee.
Virgil is survived by his wife Joyce Miller of Marion, Virginia; one daughter, Carolyn Hubbard and husband, Brian of Gate City, Virginia; two sons, Brad Miller and wife, Melissa and Mark Miller and wife, Crystal all of Marion, Virginia; six sisters, Mary Lou Buell, Patsy Jennings, Darnell Boff, Sheran Hughes, Judy Dykes and Carol Smith; three brothers, Franklin Miller, Roger Miller and Jeff Miller; eight grandchildren, Brian Miller, Brandon Jones, Adam Jones, Allison Jones, Alexius Miller, Allison Campbell-Doss, Mark Miller II, and Lauren Hubbard; two great-grandchildren, Dayton and Eli Jones; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, August 1, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, Marion, Virginia with Reverend David Woody officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
