MARION, VIRGINIA: VIRGINIA GREEAR, age 95, died Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at her home in Marion, Virginia.
Virginia was born March 14, 1915 in Grant, Virginia, daughter of the late Stephen Glenn and Kate Cox Thomas. She grew up in Grayson County and attended Madison College and Marion College. She taught in mixed grade classrooms at Clems Branch School in Grayson County and at Landsdown School in Smyth County.
Her home has been in Marion, Virginia since she married David Greear in 1940. Virginia and David Greear ran Greear Studio, a photographic service and store, since 1940. Virginia was the studio photographer while her husband was in Army Service in W.W. II. After her husband died in 1972, Virginia operated the photo service for the rest of 65 years that the firm was open.
Virginia was a member of the First United Methodist Church for more than 65 years.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Capt. Creed C. Thomas, USN and her sister, Elizabeth McConnell.
She is survived by her son, John Greear and daughter, Jean Greear.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, July 2, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Reverend Jonathan Jonas officiating. Burial will follow in Grant Cemetery, Grant, Virginia.
