INDEPENDENCE, Va.
Virginia May Yates Keffer, age 94, passed away Sunday, February 27, 2022 at Twin County Regional Healthcare, Galax, Va.
Virginia Keffer, born February 4, 1928 was the youngest of four children. She married and had two children. She chose a career with Geico insurance and spent the latter of her career there setting up new office branches in areas like Virginia Beach, Richmond, and Northern Virginia. She retired from Geico in the mid 80’s and worked as an apartment manager and as a secretary for several companies before finally moving to Beaver and helping her family take care of her mother on and off for many years until her passing. After moving to Independence Virginia, she spent the remainder of her time caring for her children until they passed. Virginia was a strong independent woman until the very end.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank M. and Tressie M. Yates; daughter, Garnett M. Keffer-Desmond; son, William Keffer Jr; siblings, Robert Yates, James Yates, and Mabel Yates-Swaim; and great-grandson, Frank Laliberte Jr.
She is survived by five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces, Racheal Farmer, Barbara Fennell, Sue Pate, and Caroline Yates; nephews, Eddie Yates and Robert Yates.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 1 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Blake Frazier officiating. Private family graveside service will be held at a later date at Zion Episcopal Churchyard, 301 East Congress Street, Charles Town, West Va., 25414.
