ATKINS, VIRGINIA: WADE HAMPTON SHEPHERD, age 88, died Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at his home in Atkins, Virginia.
Mr. Shepherd was owner of D & J Auto Parts. He was also a U.S. Navy Veteran having proudly served his country in World War II. He was a member of the Marion Lions Club and Falling Water Baptist Church. Mr. Shepherd was the last of eight siblings having recently lost his last sister, Helen Byrd. In addition to his siblings Mr. Shepherd was preceded in death by his wife Margie Bentley Shepherd; infant granddaughter, Amy Cheeks; and step-daughter, Mary Jane McMillan.
He is survived by two daughters & one son-in-law Darlene & Bill Miller and Joyce Cheeks all of Atkins, Virginia; one step-daughter Mildred Warner of Winchester, Virginia; four grandchildren Donna Ellis of Richlands, North Carolina, Dawn Keyes and husband, Carl of Sugar Grove, Virginia; Denise Bryant and husband, T.J. of Saltville, Virginia and Danita Cheeks of Seven Mile Ford, Virginia; four great-grandchildren Kayla Dowell and husband, Dustin, Jonathan Keyes and special friend, Jordan Snider, James "Will" Fletcher and Claire "Bear" Bryant; five step-grandchildren, Mike Salyers of Sevierville, Tennessee, Karen Williams and husband, Michael of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Johnny Albert and Keith Albert, both of Winchester, Virginia and Randy Warren of Bluefield, Virginia; sister-in-law, Geneva Shepherd of Marion, Virginia; several special nieces and nephews and his special dog, Binky.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Pastor Jerry Creasy and Reverend Mike Sage officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by Francis Marion VFW Post #4667. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
