MARION, Va.
Walter Luther Baldwin, age 79, passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at Smyth County Community Hospital.
Walter Baldwin was a loving husband to his wife Ann for more than 56 years. He was the best dad, grandaddy, and friend you could find. If Walter said he was going to do it – you could count on it. He was devoted to the Masons, and active in the Catholic Church; everything from Parrish Council President to keeping the music together for Ann. Walter was proud of the Cursillo Movement – a lay organization working to better lives. He had his priorities right, God, family, and country. Walter will be missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin Walter and Evelyn Baldwin.
Walter is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ann Baldwin of Marion, Va.; daughter, Virginia Ann Wiehrs and husband Keith of Gloucester, Va.; sons, John Baldwin and wife, Tina Grubb of Marion, Va., and David Baldwin and wife, Analyn of Germany; six grandchildren, Amanda, Emily, Andrew, Chloe, Emma, and Martin Walter Baldwin III; and two great-grandchildren, Elena and Violet.
The family will receive friends Saturday, August 28, 2021 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Masonic Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. followed by Military Rites rendered by the U.S. Navy Funeral Honors Guard and Francis Marion VFW Post #4667 at Seaver-Brown Chapel. A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 2 p.m. at St. John's Catholic Church, 124 Park Boulevard, Marion, Va. with Father Frances Musolooza officiating.
