MARION, Va.: WANIE JAY JOHNSON, age 73, died Thursday, October 1, 2015 at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, Va.
Wanie loved to fish and knew all of the best fishing holes. He loved to take trips to Pilot Mountain. He enjoyed making hunting knives and when he could, he really enjoyed spending time with his family. Wanie was independent and like to make his own decisions. He will be missed by many who knew and loved him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James Percy and Ila Mae Combs Johnson; brothers, Ernest Johnson and Bain Johnson; and a nephew, Kevin Johnson.
Wanie is survived by two sisters, Dolly Holt of Pilot Mountain, N.C. and Betty Hawkins of Sugar Grove, Va.; two brothers, Loyd Johnson and wife, Elma and Kecil Johnson and wife, Kimberly all of Marion, Va.; sister-in-law, Shirley Johnson of Sugar Grove, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 5, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Mr. Buddy Wagoner officiating. Burial will follow in Slemp Cemetery, Sugar Grove, Va. The family will receive friends Monday from 12 noon until 1 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
