William Barker

MARION, VIRGINIA: WILLIAM DENNIS "DENNIE" BARKER, age 64, died Thursday, April 30, 2015 at Smyth County Community Hospital, Marion, Virginia. Dennis was a Virginia State Trooper for 18 years. He retired from the Marion Police Department after 12 years of service. After retirement he continued to serve the community, this time by working at Francis Brothers and then Smyth Paint. Dennis made many special friends in the years he served his community as an officer and as a friendly face in our local stores. He was preceded in death by his parents, William "Bill" and Bonnie Murray Barker. Dennis is survived by his wife, Golda Martin Barker of Marion, Virginia; two daughters, Sherry Barker Wolfe of Verona, Virginia and Christy Barker Bise and husband, Danny of Marion, Virginia; granddaughter, Abby Bise of Marion, Virginia: sister, Phyllis Ann Berry and husband, Richard of Chihowie, Virginia; uncle, James Clark; aunt, Marlene Murray, both of Marion, Virginia; cousin, Tammy Murray Harrison and her son, Trevor Richardson; and two special granddogs, Biscuit and Sebastian. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, May 3, 2015 at 3:30 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Pastor James H. Bangle and Reverend Frank Branson officiating. Burial will follow in Middle Fork Cemetery, Chilhowie Virginia. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
