Willie Alberta Mitchell Hawthorne, 95, of Marion, Virginia passed away, Thursday, January 4, 2024.
As a child, Alberta lived with her grandparents, Ed and Nancy Alberta Rotenberry (in the Thomas Bridge area) whom she adored. She attended school in Sugar Grove, VA. She would later graduate from Marion High School. Alberta retired from Harwood after working 25 years as a garment worker.
After retiring, she became employed at the Marion Hardee’s. There she was the biscuit maker and later ended her career as a dining room hostess. Alberta loved working at Hardee’s and enjoyed meeting new people, making friends, and chatting with the locals and her co-workers.
She loved attending the Sugar Grove School and Harwood reunions where she was able to catch up with all her former classmates and former co-workers. The one thing Alberta loved the most was to be surrounded by her family and enjoy sampling everyone's home cooking.
Preceding her in death include her parents, William Delphus Mitchell and Bessie Vergie Rotenberry Mitchell; husband, Graham Preston "Pete" Hawthorne; daughter, Patricia Ann Keys; brothers, Joseph Woods Mitchell, Alpheus Edward Mitchell, Robert Stuart Mitchell, and Frazier Francis Mitchell.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Charlotte Clark (Fred), and Michael Hawthorne; sisters, Margaret Phillips, and Ann Ross (Robert); brothers, Charles Mitchell, and Glen Mitchell (Sherry); six grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery located at 4410 Lee Highway, Marion, Va., with Pastor Paul Shallenburg officiating.
