ATKINS, Va.
Zillie Viola Brooks McKinnon, age 88, died Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at her home.
She was born June 26, 1929 in Smyth County, Va. to the late James Monroe and Lou Fox Brooks. Zillie was a faithful member of Freedom Tabernacle Baptist Church and a strong Christian woman, who shared her testimony and witnessed for her Lord. She would help anyone who was in need and had a love for children. Zillie was a loving mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her. She will be missed.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Emmitt Fielden McKinnon; and numerous siblings.
Zillie is survived by her sons, James E. "Jimy" McKinnon of Atkins, Va. and Tommy McKinnon and wife, Julie of Monrovia, Md.; brother, Earnest Avery Brooks of Phoenix, Az.; granddaughter, Jamie McKinnon Spruill and husband, Scott of Atkins, Va.; grandson, James McKinnon, Jr. and wife, Tammy of Bristol, Va.; great-grandchildren, Garrett, Ezra and Sydney; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 13, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Reverend Mike Sage officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, April 12, 2018 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
